"... about several of these souvenirs, I heard from our President details of how they were given to him. For each one, he had a word of special affection, making no difference among a souvenir given him by a Rotary Club, and those that had been given him by several government leaders. "

R.I.Director 1985-86

After 40 years as Rotarian and being a great fan of old recollections, Paulo kept everything that he received, and always, always brought home everything that could, in some way, remember him of being in a Rotary event, since the most important thing until the simplest one.

At the end of his term as Rotary International President, I noticed how much of Rotary we had at home. Things that -- as the years went by -- would be important only for those who loved Rotary.

It took some time... a long time... until I got him excited to the idea of a Collection.

There, each piece would have its history and importance valued, but when he decided to do it, he gave it all Faith and all Enthusiasm that were his characteristics, projecting and drawing every detail, reserving space and place for each item remembered with tenderness.

As it was his characteristic, he named this place "Rita - Paulo Costa Rotary Collection", since, as he used to say, I have been a part of it.

After some time, I suggested Paulo to transfer his professional office to the Collection, integrating his activities - business and Rotary - in his dynamic daily life.

It has been more than one year he has gone, and I miss him more every day... but he is also more present. His figure gets giant in every honor he receives, in each friend who remembers with affection and appreciation a moment lived at his side. How many histories we have heard…

His legacy will still be kept for a long time and all the seeds he planted, will, no doubt, fructify, in the confidence he always had that the world could be better, if all of us thus want so.
